When fishing I always pay attention to my sonar. If fishing from the top down, it's important to note the depth that you are seeing fish and keep your jigs just above that depth. If fishing from the bottom up, when you catch that first fish, stop reeling, and land the fish by pulling the line with your hand. This will allow you to return to the exact depth and a better chance of another bite. Some will also mark the line with a marker to allow you to return to the exact depth.
