Spinners For Winners
Lindy's Ready-To-Fish Spinners
Before every walleye tournament, you will find many pro anglers working on tackle. They will be adjusting this, tying on that and maybe even painting something. They are trying to get the edge over the competition by tweaking their gear in order to get the best performance they can.
And in every tournament where spinners are expected to be the key factor - the frenzy of tackle adjustment reaches its peak. You see, most snelled spinners on the market need a lot of work.
With some pros, the emphasis is tying on new, sharper and better hooks. Others will be worried about the length of the snell or the quality of the leader. Still others will be changing beads adding beads or varying the colors. And finally, some folks will be changing the blades to ones that are larger or smaller or have more cup or a better finish to match the available forage in the lake.
The really experienced spinner fishermen will be doing all of the above. In other words, they will be tying their own spinners rather than rebuilding any sub-par rigs.
Now, there is no need for all that any longer. Lindy’s new spinners have covered all of the “improvement” bases for you. These new generation spinners are the best on the market - bar none.
Take a look at what you get… there is a six-foot leader tied with high-quality 14-pound test fluorocarbon. The hooks, (Lindy’s best) have been tested by engineers to be the strongest and sharpest available.
Beads – Wowza! Not enough can be said about Lindy’s high quality production, material and finish of the beads. You cannot find a better bead on a spinner-rig. Not only are they larger than the general “run of the mill” bead, but the pearlescent finishes and translucent colors make them come alive in the water. And that look of “life” is what you want in any walleye lure.
It’s difficult to say enough about the quality of the beads on the Lindy spinner. Most fishermen think that the beads on a spinner are there just to keep the blade from bumping into the hooks. But that’s not the case in the Lindy line of offerings.
The beads were chosen specifically for each spinner pattern because the beads are a big part of what makes Lindy spinners so effective. Because the beads on Lindy spinner rigs are larer, walleyes have a larger target to home in on. The beads are mostly translucent, and most have a bait imitating pearlescent finish.
With the size, the translucent colors and pearl finish, the beads become the body of the forage fish they imitate. This remarkable transformation needs only the action of a blade to really come alive.
Which brings us to the blades - you can see for yourself the finishes have been designed by one of Minnesota’s top walleye fishermen to mimic the primary forage fish that are found in walleye waters. Not only is the finish tough, but the blades also sport the colors keyed to particular forage minnows, and that is a BIG deal!
The blades also feature a holographic eye and use the Lindy tag as a realistic looking lateral line.
When the blades are teamed with the beads, the entire spinner screams, “Eat me!” in walleye.
Currently, Lindy offers a dozen fish-catching color patterns of beads and blades that target specific forage species. The spinners look good in the package, but put them in water, and they come to life. They are no longer a fishing lure. When they are matched with a crawler, a leech or a minnow, they become a living, swimming creature that walleyes and other game fish really can’t resist.
If you look at the specific features one by one, you can see the reasons why each was picked for that particular function. For instance, the fluorocarbon leader is six feet long, for those times when walleyes are spooked by bottom bouncers, such as in clear water over a muddy bottom. Dropping that far back may be necessary at times behind a diver as well.
Getting a shorter snell is quick. Simply cut the Lindy No-Snagg swivel off the line, cut the leader to length and re-tie the swivel. Done!
Fluorocarbon was used for a couple of reasons - and not (as you may believe) just for its relative invisibility compared to standard monofilament. Fluorocarbon, by nature is harder than monofilament because it is denser. That hardness improves the abrasion resistance so that you can fish a spinner for days, catching dozens of walleyes without having to retie. On top of that, fluorocarbon is stiffer, and it resists the kinking or twisting that happens with monofilament in a snelled spinner application. Besides, the fluorocarbon lets a blade spin easier because of its harder finish and reduced friction.
As for the hooks, Lindy did extensive testing before coming up with the best of the best. These super-sharp hooks are simply the strongest and sharpest on the market.
The fact that the finish on the #2 Octopus hooks is black nickel is a bonus - it retards corrosion better than most other finishes on the market.
One “point” here should be made about the hook size on Lindy spinners… the #2 hooks are not so small that you will miss a bite, and they are big enough to grab just about anywhere they contact walleye flesh. They are “sticky” sharp, strong as a goat’s breath and the best at hooking up. What more could you want?
Two other points worth noting - all the spinners are built with an X-Change clevis, which lets you mix and match when you want alter blade colors to suit the conditions or the fish’s whimsy. And each spinner comes tied to a No-Snagg swivel, the same swivel Lindy recommends for use with its floats, as one eye is larger than the other.
Every spinner pattern is offered in both a two-hook crawler harness and a single-hook rig for minnows or leeches.
There are twelve color combos, all of which key in on the appearance of walleyes’ major forage fish. If for instance the main minnow in your water is the redtail, there is a spinner to match. The same goes for perch, tullibee, shiners, and so on. Fishing a lake where fatheads are hot? Then tie on the fathead spinner and know that your spinner is right on the money.
Put all these features together, and you have a spectrum of spinners that truly outshine the rest. They are really that good.
Even in those lakes and rivers where the represented forage fish doesn’t exist, you’ll find that the color combinations work extremely well. That’s because once you add water and live bait, these new Lindy spinners come alive, and the look of life is what puts walleyes in the livewell.
